Another year, another Valentine’s. Actually wait, not this year. This year was different. Why? For those of you that know me you’ll probably already know why, but those of you who don’t, check out my about page to catch up.

Caught up?…Ok so here it goes…

In true couple style this journey to starts with a bit of romance and class. Let’s be real with big plans to come out to Portugal they’re not ones to be taken lightly, especially on Valentine’s Day. So why not make it one to remember hey! After all I am a lady, lol. Thanks to the Four Seasons RITZ Hotel in Lisbon who gracefully hosted us for the night they definitely made it a night not to be forgotten. Being given the opportunity to celebrate our first Valentine’s after marriage with nothing else but good old fashioned romance was a pleasant surprise and an evening nothing short of a fairytale, who would decline?

Welcome…

As soon as we pulled up at the entrance we were graciously greeted with pleasant smiles and helpful hands. “Cliched” travels were behind us and we’d granted access to a new, more sophisticated manner of travel expectations. At this point we didn’t realise that this was only the start. Upon entering the reception you’re immediately stopped by the view in front of you. Elegantly hanging from above were fresh orchids arranged in a whimsical chandelier orientation brightening up the room and drawing you through to the lounge in the distance. I couldn’t help but take a snap…

Staff & Service…

Exceeding expectations and only getting better we made our way up to the room and shortly after we were treated with some small complimentary platters to accommodate us. Chocolates and strawberries fit for Valentine’s, a fruit platter for a light snack and a few mini pastel de natas for that splash of Lisbon love, all accompanied with some Porto Special Reserve Tawny to toast to the occasion. What more could you ask for?

With a glass of port in one hand and Fab’s hand in another we stepped outside onto the balcony and were taken aback by yet another amazing site. Right there in front of us, a panoramic view showcasing why Lisbon is the place to fall in love. Overlooking the Eduardo VII Park, Praça do Marquês de Pombal and Avenida da Liberdade you’re surrounded by history and culture, at its centre. Right beside us a small table with a couple of chairs perfect for lounging and taking it all in. Sitting there for hours the time flew by, the sun setting in front of us and day became night. It was nothing short of a fairytale, unplanned moments packed with little details not to be forgotten.

By this point romance had filled the air entirely and the idea of dolling up for the evening had floated away. Both of us were exhausted and the large bathtub was calling my name. I couldn’t resist. Plans of fine wining and dining got replaced with room service. You’re probably thinking I’m crazy? I’m at the Four Seasons and I’d rather have dinner in my room than in the Spa (where the Valentine’s dinner was to take place) but trust me it was worth it. Impeccable service and friendly staff made the experience even more memorable.

Just before our dinner arrived a lovely maid came up to the room to turn down our beds, and prepare the room for the evening. Everything was perfect, it was as if the only thing missing was a goodnight kiss. Made us feel so at ease. When dinner arrived myself and Fab prepared ourselves to have dinner at the coffee table but as we stood aside the concierge miraculously transformed his trolley into a round dining table, prepared and set for a delightful meal in. He pulled up two chairs and off he went. A simple quiet night in turned into a dreamy dinner for two.

Time to say goodbye…

Valentine’s over and a new adventure ahead of us breakfast was needed. As you’ve probably guessed, yes, breakfast at the Four Seasons was definitely everything it’s cracked up to be. Pure honey dripping off the honeycomb frame to the freshly made yogurt jars nothing was short of perfect to taste. Service was impeccable and the atmosphere flawless. Even the pianist gently playing a melodic tune in the background made everything feel perfect in the world. It was sad to see this trip coming to an end, but with an unplanned adventure ahead of us whose to say we won’t be back soon in the near future. But for now off we go to explore another new world…
